According to Napoleon\u2019s plans, this was meant to be the first stretch of a monumental axis connecting to Paris. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Five years later, in 1806, a triumphal arch\u2014the future <strong>Arco della Pace<\/strong>\u2014rose at the start of the Corso to celebrate the wedding of Eug\u00e8ne de Beauharnais, the Viceroy of Italy and Napoleon&#8217;s adopted son. The <strong>Arena Civica<\/strong> was inaugurated the following year, commissioned by Napoleon to host events and grand public celebrations. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The district\u2019s current green and residential atmosphere is the result of the city\u2019s first major urban plan, developed by engineer <strong>Cesare Beruto<\/strong> (1884\u20131889). It was here that Italy\u2019s national football team played their very first match in 1910!  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A short stroll away lies <strong>Piazza Sempione<\/strong>, the beating heart of Milan\u2019s social scene, watched over by the <strong>Arco della Pace,<\/strong> one of the city\u2019s most celebrated landmarks. The neighborhood bustles with venues that light up at dusk, yet it still guards quiet treasures such as the <strong>Basilica del Corpus Domini<\/strong>, whose rough, unfinished exterior hides a beautiful ornate interior. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, just steps from the square, you can see the <strong>historic Rai production center designed by Gio Ponti <\/strong>in 1939.
